Now we can be off grid when the power goes down.
In preparation for the inevitable power outage we will eventually have, we invested in a PTO generator for the property.  It is a generator that hooks to the back of the tractor.  When researching generators, we discovered that we could easily spend $10,000 on a generator big enough to keep us running if needed.

With a little research, I found the PTO generator that runs off a tractor for just over $1000.  The price was a lot cheaper because we are using the big diesel engine we already own... no need for another one.

We purchased the generator from Northern Tool.

The hut is built form left over metal and my own milled wood.  I used oak for both strength and weight for the base to give it all the stability it needed to run a large generator like that.

The big silver box on the wall is a manual transfer switch from Ronk Electric.  It cost over $500.

The small box between the two larger boxes is a plug that connects the generator.

We now have 240 volts at 50 amps running to the house if the grid goes down.  All that at a sufficient 12,000 watts.

All in all, it cost about $2450.
